Meet Your New Best Friend

Mila turned her own experience with mental
health challenges into a movement.

As a 12-year old biracial Black girl, Mila saw how stigma and silence made it harder to ask for help, so she created something she wished she’d had herself: a box filled with care, comfort, and connection.

In 2024, with support from the Black Girl Joy Challenge through Pete & Thomas Foundation and Southern Black Girls and Women's Consortium, Mila launched MH Boxes to give Black girls the tools and encouragement to talk about mental health and advocate for themselves. What began as a handful of boxes has grown into a nationwide effort reaching schools, youth programs, and families, reminding girls they are seen, heard, and supported.

Now, Mila’s vision is to take MH Boxes beyond the box by building programs that not only support girls’ mental health, but also prepare them to be leaders. Through workshops, scholarships, mentorship, and advocacy, she’s creating a future where Black girls are driving the conversation about their mental health.
